The Leadership Moments That Never Make the Calendar

As school leaders, our calendars fill up quickly.

-Board meetings
-Budget discussions
-Strategic planning
-Construction updates
-Hiring decisions
Those responsibilities are important.

But over the years, I've come to realize that some of the most meaningful moments in leadership never appeared on my schedule.

They happened in the hallways and classrooms.

They happened when I stopped to ask a student about their science project, congratulated someone on a great game, or simply celebrated a birthday.

Those conversations often lasted only a minute or two.

Yet those are the moments students remember.

As Simon Sinek reminds us:
"Leadership is not about being in charge. It is about taking care of those in our charge."

No meeting is more important than a moment that reminds a child they matter.
