Belonging Begins When Someone Notices

The first week of school is filled with smiles, new supplies, and fresh possibilities 😃

But not everyone walks through the doors feeling confident that they belong 😢

  • The student sitting alone in the cafeteria.

  • The child standing outside an unfamiliar classroom, unsure whether they are in the right place.

  • The new teacher who is overwhelmed but hesitant to ask for help.

The first week isn’t only about schedules, procedures, and getting everyone to the right place...It’s also about noticing.

  • Notice the student who hasn’t made a connection yet.

  • Notice the employee who is still trying to find their footing.

  • Notice the person whose smile may be hiding uncertainty.

    Then take the next step.

Offer the empty seat. Hold open the door. Start the conversation.
Belonging doesn’t happen simply because someone enters a building.
It begins when another person notices them, reaches out, and invites them in.

During the first week, don’t just notice who showed up.

Notice who hasn’t found their place yet.
